For the past few years I’ve decided to follow a Bible reading plan on the Bible app in hopes of reading the entire Bible in a year. Wanna know how many times I’ve followed through? ZERO. Once I get off track, I almost sabotage myself with guilt for not doing better.
Well we’re a few weeks into January and I’m already a few days behind. But my approach is different now. There’s no reason to get anxious when I know I’m doing my best.
The plan I’m following this year is called The Bible in One Year with Nicky Gumbel. Each day there’s a pretty lengthy devotional that accompanies the scriptures, but they’ve really helped me put all of the passages into context. Today I was especially moved by this statement by Nicky —
God does not want you to be downcast. Don’t keep looking at the regrets behind you, the problems around you and the sin within you. Rather, lift up your head and see the help above you – walk with your head held high, and your eyes fixed on him.

I know that walking with my head down – physically, mentally and spiritually – is something I need to work on. There are so many reasons for us to hold our heads high.
